"We came here to make a moving picture, but we've found something worth all the movies in the world." -Carl Denham
Merian C. Cooper’s 1933 film, “KING KONG” (starring Fay Wray) is a Hollywood classic and revolutionized special effects, just like Star Wars did 45 years later. Now, the Maverick Theater’s special effects team known as "Maverick Light & Magic" will take on the “Beauty and the Beast” adventure in their biggest endeavor yet, using a live compositing* process of multiple video sources (similar to the process that Willis O’Brien used to create the original film). Combining animated backgrounds and miniature sets with multiple green screen techniques, the actors will be interacting with live rear-screen projection.
The play is based on the Delos W. Lovelace novel, which is the same storyline and dialogue from the original film with only minor changes and additions.
Suitable for ages 6 and up.
*Compositing is the combining of visual elements from separate sources into a single image, often to create the illusion that all those elements are part of the same scene.
